this is such a beautiful picture of otter lake. it captures the mystical.
i yearn for this place. my heart aches to be there and i often have to go into the memory and imagination and spend time in our beloved cottage. bring my ashes there.

The lake looks bigger then it was when we where there. I think this photo was taken around 1936.
I too visit the past memories, that walkway, the out house, the smell of a fire burning in the huge fire place. The sensitive Indian Paintbrush flowers. The snakes, chipmunks, bear, deer, deer-flies, horseflies, ticks, oh my. Remember the underground water pump that dad always had to get started? The iron tasting water from the pump? The whippoorwill... whippoorwill...whippoorwill The keen scent of pine needles baking in the heat after a rain. the deer-flies and how they'd hang on even after you swat at them. The lake is twenty feet deep in the middle. It was cold. There are two springs that feed the lake as well as the inlet.

I remember at least one time that I got to go along with you to Otter Lake. It is in my memory as a favorite. It is so wonderfully Wisconsin.
